Title: Church of San Pietro II.
Taken at Porto Venere, Italy. The castle-like structure seemingly carved out of the natural rock is the church of San Pietro (Italian for Saint Peter)—one of the most incredible buildings I’ve seen.
I’m wary of square compositions because they often fail, but it works here. In fact this is the first image I’ve applied a square composition to.
In the short time I had to photograph this as the boat sailed past, I managed to take another photo that worked. It’s from a similar angle, but processed in colour, and in a more traditional landscape format—it’s called Church of San Pietro.
